A client billing platform
I’m the sole developer and maintainer of a brand-new platform for one of EDI’s clients, a special education services provider. It streamlines individual providers’ time cards and services and aligns them automatically with student enrollment records.
Before this, I built an AI-based tool that parsed unstructured notes to recover student and service details after the fact. The new platform does that work at the front end instead, when the time is entered, which dramatically reduces billing turnaround for the client.
StudentTrac
StudentTrac is EDI’s student information system for independent study charter schools. I’ve built two new products for it.
Transcript import. An AI-powered process for a new student’s external transcript:
- Parse the transcript
- Extract every school, term, course, grade and credit
- Map them to schools and course data already in StudentTrac
- Show the transcript side by side with the parsed data for staff to correct
- Import it for the student in one click
Conversations. A communication platform inside StudentTrac for SMS conversations between staff, guardians and students, one to one or in groups. It’s designed for automated messages that nudge students in the ways staff now manage, at best, in person or by email when they have time.
Keeping it running. I also oversee maintenance and perfective work on the platform: fixes for issues users report, and small feature requests.
Agents at work
I built a family of agents for support, analysis, repair and development. The team reaches them in our Google Chat workspace, alone or in group conversations, and through Jira, where they post and take direction too. They run in the cloud, each task in its own session, and their skills and reference files update weekly from the week’s work.
- InvestigatorStarts from a help desk ticket, works through the codebase and a non-production database, writes a report and recommends a fix.
- BuilderPicks up where an investigator left off, with extra guidance, builds the fix in a disposable environment and runs the first round of tests to get it into our development environment.
- Ticket classifierReads, classifies and assigns incoming support tickets to the right staff.
- Ticket creatorClient-facing staff can bring it into a Google Chat with a customer, where it writes a ticket from the recent conversation, screenshots included.
Developers and client-facing support staff across the team use them, the investigator most of all, to reply to issues, give estimates and get work done.
Agent practice
I define and recommend best practices for using agents on our codebase, and maintain a baseline toolkit and set of skills that anyone on the team can import to start their own StudentTrac agent on their own machine.
